The thing about the Grand Canyon that no photo can adequately convey is that it's big. Really, really Big. Like, takes up your whole field of view and extends onward for pretty much forever big. Amongst the great observations of Douglas Adams is one where he remarks that if you saw infinity, real infinity, it would just look kind of flat and boring. But certain things that are really really big, but finitely so, are far more awe inspiring than infinity itself would be. The Grand Canyon is that kind of big.
