In my continuing series of challenges to major forces of nature (see Joe Versus the Volcano, and Joe Versus the Virgin Islands, also in the photo gallery), I visited the Grand Canyon for the first time in the late fall of 2003. Selecting my favorite 25 photos out of the four rolls I took during my 3 days in and around the national park was exceedingly difficult. I've never seen a place that so well lives up to its name. Grand indeed.
