Gallery: Sailing in the BVI
The Moorings Base, Road Town, Tortola, British Virgin Islands

I spent the first week of February, 2003, sailing in the British Virgin Islands with a bunch of people from the Manhattan Yacht Club. It was one of the best vacations I've ever taken, but sailing is a funny thing. It sounds very elegant, and it can be a truly graceful way to get from one place to another. But charter sailboats are basically big, expensive, complicated, floating RVs, and here we have the equivalent of the Hertz Lot on Tortola.

The Club charters from The Moorings, which has bases all over the world, and is pretty much one of the big two charter companies these days.
